Is waxing bad for the clearcoat?

Is waxing bad for the clearcoat?

I was at walmart the other day lookin for some good wax products when some guy told me that wax was bad for the clearcoat. He ssaid that the wax takes it off, and that i shouldnt use it.
Is this true??

btw...i ended up buyin some turtle wax...for some reason i dont believe him, but not sure if its true.

you should slap that guy the next time you see him. wax won't take off the clear coat, so no worries.

Some products marketed as "wax" are actually cleaner waxes. These contain mild abrasives that will remove a very small amount of the clearcoat. That's how they get rid of swirl marks and light scratches. The mass marketed ones like Nu-Finish, Turtle Wax etc. are like that. Read the bottle. If it mentions removing these types of things, it is mildly abrasive and would, over a long period of time, remove the clearcoat.

A real 'wax' like Souveran or S100 contain no abrasives and will not hurt the clearcoat....but they won't remove imperfections.
