3m rubbing compound?

what is everyone opinons on this product?
how aggressive is this product?
will i ruin the clear coat on my car if i apply this product by hand with meduim pressure?
is the 3m rubbing compound more aggressive then meguiars scratch x or gs27?
do i have to follow the 3m up with a good wax or should i polish and then wax?
thanks
mike

I'm not familiar with the 3M brand, but most rubbing compounds are very abrasive. Much more abrasive than Scratch-X.

You'd certainly dull the clearcoat by using it and would need to follow with some less abrasive products to bring back the shine.

What exactly are you trying to do?

OK. The rubbing compound would certainly take some of that off, but you'd need a steady hand to keep it on the touched-up part.

Is the touch up the same color as the car? It looks a few shades lighter.

Methinks wetsanding might be more effective and then follow up with two polishes to remove the hazing.

But bear in mind, wetsanding is NOT something a novice should undertake.

i have this stuff.

Honestly, it didn't work so well. If a real good polish can't help, take it to a body shop. Don't ruin your clear coat.

If you applied it with a buffer you would probably be down to bare metal in about 3 seconds... it'd be more or less the same thing as using an electric sander on your paint.

You guys are crazy.....this stuff is great. Once everything looks good, do a quick wetsanding over the area with 1500 grit, rubbing compound and shine is back.....polishing is extra

Wow...I don't know what rubbing compound most of you are talking about, but there are different grades. They go from coarse, to mild.

They are great for taking about scratches if used properly. Best applied by machine. But they are a professional's product, not something an everyday novice should undertake.

You guys are crazy. 3M rubbing compound is exactly what properautocare.com recommends. I recently used it with my PC 7424 and thought it was awesome. In fact, it was so mild I had to do the car twice (which is recommended if the first time was not enough).

I would not recommend using a buffer (read not dual action polisher) but here are the steps for that
