i got a scratch! need a fix

ok well all know how much maxima paint sucks. so i got this big scratch on the door now. its not quite down to the metal but it has clearly owned the clearcoat down to the paint and its about 4 inches long. i've tried scratch removers but they don't seem to work either. i was thinking about trying a light abrasive compund to smooth it out. any good experiences using such products? suggestions/recommendations??

I've used the Mothers products and like them. You will find many different opinions as everyone has their favorites.

Start with Mothers paint CLEANER this is slightly abrasive.
Next use Mothers paint POLISH
Finish with Mothers wax.

On Sunday, someone scratched the side of my bumper in the same way, not quite down to the metal. Looks like they tried to pull into the parking space next to me and failed miserably at my expense. Didn't even leave a note. I'll never find who did it, it happen at Linen's and Things but if I ever do find them, this is what I'm gonna do

In that case, you might need to use a rubbing compound to lessen the scratch, then a polish to remove the resultant hazing, and then wax it.
