DIY tint job...

Hey guys, have any of you done your own tint? How did it turn out? Right now, I have 3M 35% all around, but I just bought some precut 15% off eBay for my back glass. I have read up on how to remove the old tint and I'm almost positive I can do that.

Use either amonia or simply green and spray on old tint. Wet a trashbag precut to the size of the window and stick it on to trap the solution on the window. Let sit for an hour or so and it should start to peel off.

I'm just wondering if I should even try to tackle installing the new tint. To get one piece, I have to use my heat gun and shrink the 'fingers' and smooth them out. Is it really as hard as it sounds? How much do you think it would be to have someone professionally install just this rear piece if I have already removed the old tint?

Thanks,
drew

My 2 cents..

Well What is the brand that you got of of e-bay?? 3m is one of the better brands of tint. I manage a tint shop in the charlotte area. I can tell you that unless you remove every bit of glue of the back window than they will charge you to get the rest of the glue off. What would you like to see.? Do you just whant to get the back window darker??? If that is the case than put tint over the tint.. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

You can do that???? I always thought that you had to remove the tint first. The tint is LLumnar (sp?) 15%. I have 35% on right now, 3M as I stated.

Yes, I just want the back window darker because I am putting in a custom system in the rear deck and I don't want it to be as noticable to people with sticky fingers.

Would it be hard for me to do it on my own? I'm kinda sketchy on the whole heat shrinking process. Only other things I have tinted personally are my dads rear window in his s10 a long time ago, and the rear windows in my old chrysler. The chrysler had a curve on the horizontal. Both turned out pretty good.

Thank you for your reply(s),

yes you can

you can go over the top... I would recomend letting a pro do it. The back window is the hardest one to shrink and put on... not the hardest car in the world to tint however if you mess up the pc of tint than you are out of your money .... I would go to a tint shop and ask if they will put it on on the side .... get the tinter out to your car adn then ask him.... away from the shop..
