black marks on a brown dash, anyone else?

My dash is dark brown, and the area over the passenger air bag has a large black marking on it, almost like the brown color of the dash was somehow rubbed off. I've tried cleaning it but didn't make any difference. Has anyone else had to deal with something similar?? I've gotten used to it but it really doesn't help the apperance of the interior at all. any advice is appreciated

Do you know what the mark may consist of?

Mine has done the same thing. The brown dye or whatever it is has rubbed off in spots. I've been to several automotive paint stores to try to get some vinyl paint or dye, but haven't found any that'll match perfect yet.
I've also called Nissan to see about a new airbag cover. They said it is an integral part of the airbag, and can't be replaced by itself.
To remove the airbag, a tamper resistant torx bit is needed; you know the type with the hole in the center (I think a T50). Four torx bits or so is what holds it in. This is of course after you follow the precautions in the FSM or Haynes manual about messing around the airbag.
If anyone finds a good paint code or supplier, let us all know. It seems this is becoming a common problem.

Yeah, I bought my I30 with brown dash in March, about 9 months ago, and when I first detailed it, I was using a dawn/water mix to scrub the interior parts, and the airbag brown dye/paint came right off!!! I repainted but the color is more of a khaki color than dark brown. It matches my seats better than my dash, but I haven't been able to find matching paint either. I'm still on the lookout though, so I'll let you guys know.

Definitely good to know I'm not the only one here with this problem. It happened to me when I was cleaning the dash and interior trim with a water/ammonia mix. Only the airbag cover had a problem. Pissed me off then and it still does when I see it.

That happened to me too

The same thinghappened to my tan interior. i was using one of those Armor All cleaning wipes that come in the three pack and rubbed the dye right off. I did this on my sttering wheel airbag and my passenger airbag. It really annoys me. It is such a relief to know that this happened to other people too. maybe there is a solution to this problem?
