Hazing/pitting on plastic fog light-Fix
wanted to share, since i dont ever recall a thread about this and didnt see it in the stickys,( i appologise if this is a re-post)
I know I am not the only one who has nicks/scratches/hazy/pitted (plastic)fog light lenses.- I had one foglight replaced after an acident, so was realy noticable,i was thinking about getting a new light. But instead i took the light out and removed the lense, wet sanded with 200, 400 then 800 grit paper then used rubbing compound ,plastic polish and finaly a coat of wax (on 1/2 the lense )and now its as clear as the one that was put in over the summer.
i taped off left side and did the right

I would follow that with something like Renovo or Novus to ensure that all hazing is removed.

ah irishj44,
was thinking of you when i posted this, as i remember you mentioning your fog light lenses being in a condition similar to mine- quite a few times, in varios threads. leading me to believe this problem is common to all 2k & 2k1's.
Thats why i posted in the 5th gen forum-but the mods have doomed this fix to disapear into the the seldom visited detailing forum....glad to see you viewed it before that happened.
Anyway to answer your question, I did use compound, plastic polish, clay, and glazing compound on the inside of the lens. But in retrospect i shouldnt have bothered, it didnt need it, but after that first swirl of compound was applied, i had no choice but to finish the process

Where the heck do I find Plastic Polish, I've asked at various stores and NOBODY seems to have the stuff let alone know what it is.
With wet sanding the lense how exactly is that done ? Do you use normal
sandpaper? or a special "Wet" kind??
Sorry to sound like an idiot I've just never seen it done on plastic before and
my Foglights are in DIRE need of this treatment as they are very badly pitted.
Markus.
