Rock Gaurd Homemade?

I was wondering if any of you have attempted to make your own rock guard thing for your hood.

I have looked into getting one since i repainted the max and have gotten some nasty rock chips. But the clear bras are like 500+ bucks! thats pure insanity. I was wondering it would be possible to just order the material from 3M and make it yourself.

Anyone try this? if so, where did you order the stuff?

After seeing how those things are applied and all the care taken to make them perfect, I'd highly recommend forking over the $$ to have it professionally done. I've seen a few poor installs as well, and they make the whole car look like crap.

You can actually buy the raw material for the clear mask, but it's a very time consuming process to make sure that everything fits perfectly.

Beint the perfectionist that i am, im sure i wont have a problem doing a nearly perfect job. The thing is, that i ONLY want to cover up the first foot or so of the hood and thats it. I dont really wana do the mirrors and all that, thats a lil too much work and being made of plastic really gives some play, in other words the mirrors and everything never really chips as easily as the hood does.

Do you guys have any links to places where i can order the raw material?
