Black car...what to do

I drive a black '99 I30. I'm pretty concerned about the way my paint looks--it's not bad, but it's not perfect enough either. I had the car detailed and they even used a mildly abrasive solution to heat the paint up and buffed it out. Still, I have swirl marks and the paint just looks dull and pretty bad in my opinion.

Is there anything I can do to make the paint look good, shine, and not have swirl marks?

I'm not sure what you mean by the solution itself heating the paint. They most likely used a rotary on your car (which generates heat) and that can leave buff/swirl marks which are very evident in certain light.

I'd try a mild abrasive polish with a PC. That has taken out minor swirls on my black finish.

Show us what you're looking at and we can work on a solution that would help.

There are pics in my sig...taken with a camera phone so that's as clear as they will get. Whenever I see white, green, blue, or any other color Max I get so mad because the paint looks so good. Every single imperfection shows up in black paint.

I guess what I should ask is what wax products do you guys recommend?

Very hard to see any detail in the pics. Do you have a PC and pads?

I saw those pics, sorry we need something closer and clearer.

I'm guessing he doesn't have a PC because he had someone else detail it.

Get the PC 7336 at lowe's, get a pad kit and then we can begin the polish debate.

Let us know what you have today.

Blues, you ever try Poorboys SSRs?

One thing off the bat is that you are going to have to use a multi-step process in order to remove the imperfections. That means you are going to have to use more than one polish to polish out the swirls and hazing. As everyone else has said, you DEFINITELY need to invest in a PC and a good set of pads to save yourself time.

I've got the 2.5 and 1 and it seems I can get a lot cleaned up with the 2.5.

I30t KID, wish I knew about more about what your lookign at, but I'd say the 2.5 with a light cutting pad would be a good start. I'm a Edge 2000 pad user, that would be the green pad.

Okay, after closely looking at some other black Max's, I guess my paint isn't all that bad. Swirl marks aren't bad, I think it just needs a pad and several coats of wax. What brands do you use?
