Removing Chewing Gum From Carpet

I need some advice about removing gum from my trunk mat. It was on the bottom of something I put in the trunk the other day and didn't realize it was there till today. It is still a little gummy - not solid (if that makes any sense).

Thanks in advance!

u can try ice on it and rubbing it off (it ***** up and come's off) ... since the trunk carpet is so shallow, it should work out.

When I worked as a janior at our Junior High, we had cans of something that would freeze the gum very quickly, we then just took a putty knife to it and it came right up. Maybe a can of compressed air turned upside down will take care of it.

WD-40 will remove the gum, but then you need to use a citrus degreaser to remove the WD-40. I would test this method on a spot that doens't show to determine if it'll leave a stain.

Dry ice freezes gum and makes it real easy to remove...however a combination of ice, a good carpet cleaner, and some elbow grease will probably work best..

Goo Gone

I have had to remove gum from a number of carpets and the best product I have found is called "Goo Gone". They sell it everywhere, including Walmart and Kmart, for about $3.00 a bottle. It is designed to remove tar, paint and gum from porous surfaces and it has an orange/citrus smell.

Basically, pick away any excess gum you can before use. Dab a little goo gone on a soft cloth and start working on the gum stain from all sides into the center. It will gradually start to "ball up" the material until the gum is basically gone. It works pretty well and doesn't leave a stain on the carpet.

Any form of freezing the gum first would be best. That's how I've always gotten gum outta clothes and upholstrey. Try it out
