Do detail products "expire"

Do waxes, sealants, compounds, and polishes ever "expire" by going bad/too watery or gunky?

I would think that if stored properly in room temperatures with as little air as possible in the bottles, then they should be good...but could they expire?

I ask because I want to buy a few gallons of different products, but want to make sure I won't be throwing them out soon.

Curious as to extreme temperature? All my stuff is in the garage on a shelf. Figure the garage might be 30 degrees. Is that too cold?

Yes, 30 would be too cold. Many products will freeze at that temp. And some that don't can be affected by cold temps. I live in Wisconsin and I bring all my stuff in when the temp hits about 40 degrees.

alright, so room temperature=profit

I have some Instant-Shine in aerosol cans in my garage...if I try spraying them, then they spray like a **** stream, but once warmed up, they spray normal again.

As far as expiring, I think you're OK if you keep them at a reasonable temperature. The only thing that I can think of that would expire would be the Poly-Charger CH2 after it's been mixed.

What about my trunk? I park in a parking garage about 90% of the time, so the hottest it ever gets would probably be about 100* in the summer. Too hot?

Yup.

The only expiring I've ever encountered was not with the product, but with the plastic container it was in. After a while (either due to age or extreme temp changes) the bottles or containers will crack and create a heck of a mess. Keep your stuff at a fairly consistent temp and I think you'll be alright.

I had two squeeze bottles of Meguiar's products shrink-up and get kind of crinkly. The product separated so I threw them out.

Anything that's 'liquid' ought to be brought inside before it gets cold. And I bring in my paste waxes. Not sure how the cold would affect them (if at all) but I'm not willing to experiment with my Souveran.

I leave my clay bars in the garage.

Correct. I have had waxes in extreme heat melt or break and some products in extreme cold may be rendered ineffective.

My stuff is stored in a closet where the temp doesn't get too hot or too cold.

Too cold? Where you're at Prinz? Thats highly suspect....hehe

I will admit you're lucky not to be here. This winter if it hasn't been below zero, it's been snowing like a bietch!
