that brasso stuff is awesome - cleaned up my nasty *** headlights and they look virtually brand new. thank you Fr33way for the heads up!

 

Just used brasso on my yellowed out 97-99 headlights and WOW!!!!

That stuff is great, thanks freeway.

I did it with the lights on the car for now, but plan on removing the lights in the future to really polish along the edges as you can still see a bit of a yellow hue there.

I snapped some pics but don't have the cable with me to upload them so I'll post em up here later this week.

 

I found this Permatex headlight cleaner at Advance Auto Parts today. When I looked it up online and watched the demonstration video I started wondering if I could just go buy some sand paper and some PlastX and if that would do the same job. Any idea's?

Has anyone ever tried using a clay-bar on their headlights? I was claying after I washed my car this evening, decided to use it on the headlights. The headlights were fairly hazy, but not too bad, and there was a small amount of scratching. The clay took quite a bit of the haze out, but none of the scratching (didn't expect it to remove any scratches). I am going to do more cleaning this summer once I get some more free time.

 

Is there an easy way to tell if the haziness is due to oxidation on the outside or the inside of the headlight cover?

 

I just restored my headlights this past weekend before I read this thread. I went by Advanced to pick up some CRC MAF cleaner and found this stuff on the shelf next to the checkout.



The guy said he had other people tell him it worked well so I figured what the hell. Turns out the stuff works REALLY well. You basically wetsand the headlight with two different sandpapers and then apply a polishing compound and finish it up by applying a clear coat over the headlight. The package claims it's a permanent fix and they won't haze again. Anyway, here's the before and after. You can see more before pics in my sig.

that looks crazy. a friend tried some powder (mix with water) type of glass/brass polish found at bed bath and beyond, and it worked on his car. i tried some on mine that night, but the next day the film was back :-( i will try this brasso!

Anyone know how long the headlights stay "new" looking for after the brasso?

 

I have used other polishes with excellent results but after a few months the yellow haze returned. Yesterday I was detailing my mom's 95' Crown Vic and noticed how hazy the headlights were. I had some old Rain Dance rubbing compound (paste). Decided to try that on the lens, with minimal rubbing it vastly improved the lens. I put a coat of wax on top of that. We will see how long it lasts. I will try the Brasso next time.

I am new to detailing and cars guys....Just got a 2001 Maxima GLE and want to clean the haze off the headlights.

So, as far as I understand, I purchase Brasso, rub it on the headlights, and wipe?


Or do I have to sand it down with sand paper? If so, what grain? How rough?

Do I need to apply any coating after I am done? If so, what do I apply?

 

OK. I've got an 04 SL. Bought for my daughter to take to school a few months ago. Yesterday I noticed that the passenger side headlight lens seems perfectly clear. The drivers side is also clear but it appears to have a "yellow" tint to it. The lens is not fogged or hazed. How can I get the drivers side yellow out?
