20 hours of detailing on a black 1985 Porsche-lots of pics!

In the beginning.....

I should start by saying I had no idea it would take this long when I agreed to detail it, but this is how it turned out. I'm very pleased with the results, and I learned a few things along the way.

This car was garaged for something like 20 years, but for the last two years it has sat in a filthy, loose-fitting car cover, which removed all gloss from this single stage paint in many areas because it rubbed against the paint in the wind. I've never detailed a car in such poor shape, but it only made the results that much more impressive and rewarding.

I'm still not done detailing the interior yet, but I will finish Sunday and take a bunch of picturess in the sun to give you a better idea of what I did. Consider these the teaser pictures. I will say that now that I'm done with the paint, I think this is the nicest paint I've ever seen on a car. It's all original, and there is absolutely no orange peel. It's great. Not to mention that the car came off the assembly line the same month I was born in 1985.

What I did:
wash
clay bar
wash
1 or 2 passes with the Menzerna IP with the harshest pad on the UDM depending on how bad it was (I think I should buy the PG too)
1 pass with Ultima PP+
Ultima PGP sealant

Driver's side fender with major damage

Looks great....can't wait for more after pics. IMO, 20 hours seems reasonable given the original condition of the paint.

That time also includes the interior work as well, but I would say I spent at least 10 hours with the UDM....I can't wait to see it in the sun tomorrow

Yeah, I cleaned it halfway through taking the pics, but I don't think it's perfect yet...I don't know how else to clean is besides those lens wipes.

Wow...excellent job! You must be tired! I spent 12+ hours this weekend polishing one of my cars. I used Menzerna SIP & PO106FF. That stuff rocks.

Whatever they pay you it isn't enough. That's amazing for a whip of that vintage.

The harshest pad is the white pad that comes with the UDM. PG refers to Menzerna Power Gloss, their harshest polish.
