aluiminum refinishing

i have a lead on some 18" milli 1000. So they are a little beat up, little curb rash and what not. Not a big deal, i am getting the set for $150. So my question is this. I want to strip and refinish the wheels, they are aluminum so i am thinking about just shining them up.

I work with a guy that builds hot rods, muddin trucks, and he also does show trucks. Now i asked him what to use to clean/strip off the rims. He told me to use an Aircraft thinnner or Easy off, the oven cleaner.

ANyone ever try this??
here is a couple pics.

I'd try oven cleaner first.

I'd start off with that ^^ . They don't look that bad in those pics, hard to say. Aircraft remover will get rid of all the clear on them and be careful, make sure you're all covered up, wear gloves and use it in a well ventilated area. That stuff is very dangerous.
