Degreasing Engine?

So I went to walmart today & saw a engine degreaser for a good price. I was wondering what I needed to cover in the engine bay? It's a 1995 Nissan Maxima. I know to cover the battery, alternator, coilpacks & it has a stock intake so that won't be a problem. Also I was doing some reading just to find out on here everyone says let the engine run.....But on the can it says leave the engine off while it's cool...What should I do?

That stuff works ok. Greased Lightning works much better. Just be careful with it and don't get it on the paint.
