power loss on dyno?
power loss on dyno?
hey guys, i have a 2001 SE 5spd and im gettin 185hp when i dyno. all i have is a short ram intake and a greddy rear section but shouldn't i have alot more? i thought stocks ran 225, mayb thats to the crank. I dunno. what are other max's running on dyno's and with what mods? What mods (other than supercharger or turbo) do you think it would take to get up to 215hp on a dyno (like a stock 02-03 engine would run)?
I hate to break it to you, but an intake and exhaust only give you 10hp at the most. My car dynode at 217 with an intake, y-pipe, and cat-back, and I felt lucky. You should look into a y-pipe for your car. You’ll get better gains out of it than I did, because on 02’s and 03’s they don’t eliminate the pre-cats. Than buy an A’pexi SAF-CII, and bring it back to the same dyno shop and tune it.
Stock, 02, 03’s run 205 whp.

You need to educate yourself more on the topic of dynoing. What type of machine did you dyno on? If it was a dynojet, and judging from the #'s, I will be it is, they typcally lose ~ 15% for a manual, and 20% for an auto, people have their different beliefs, but that;s mine, and it hold pretty consistent. Although the 6speeds 02+ usually lose ~18% due to more mechanical drivetrain loss (heavy flywheel, one more gear).
Your car has 222, if it's an AE, then 227. That is at the crank, and you lose 15-20% depending on your transmission. What were the conditions, what was the SAE #? Do you have the files/graph?
I'm not sure, but a heavily modded, N/A, (non supercharged, or nitrous fed) DEK will need quite a bit of bolt ons & ins to get 215 whp. Most typically put down ~200-205whp. The engine has a lot of potential though.
02SEleeper is correct in that 02-03 put down ~ 200-205whp.
Spend some time here, and on
and you can find yourself a few DEK dynos.
Download the free software viewer and look for data files of your car and others, compare, analyze and learn as much as you can about what mods do what and where in the powerband, and how it may be optimized for best results.
My advice, TS, y-pipe (or header/y combo), SAFC-II.
Call it a day since cat-backs and intakes are mostly for sound.
If you have any questions about anything you have typed, try not to make a new thread on it, but research it thoroughly because odds are it has been discussed before, hence where I got all my information from... here.
