VQ35 Swap+ New Mods= 241WHP 237WTQ
Ahh, didnt think of this. I'll try it out tomorrow and see what the SAFC says. The OBD2 logger stuff I probably wont have it accessible again until Monday, so we shall see.
NMexMax, as i said before, with the air filter on, this SAFC was reading 56.9% max airflow.
Last nite I had a lil fun... 59.8%. Only variation is headers. Not bad! Now its just a matter of getting that OBD2 logger and see WHERE that airflow is going

How do I do that? I'm interested.
Jime's mod is actually designed for the 4th gen.
But yes, you can use the VQ35 t-stat just fine as well.
Also, I wouldn’t say the Z33 t-stat is THAT much better than the A32/33. It’s only about 6-10*F different. The Z33 has an Aluminum radiator, so that’s what takes care of its cooling issues a little better. Also, is there anyone here who has actually used the Nismo unit? Or is it too cold (156*F IIRC) meaning, the car will take a very long time to reach operating temperature, and we all know what that would mean. My understanding is that is primarily used for boosted applications.

My only question is, does doing the T-stat mod have the same caution as the nismo t-stat does?
lol. The dip looks severe on the graph but if you look at it, its only a drop from 14.0 to 13.5, still within that good range. I do that on purpose, like to keep it a tad bit richer up top (preference). Also, this was a sniffer wideband, and from my experience with this shop, it reads lean by ~.4. So If you see 14.0, its really more like 13.6:1. And I use an SAFC1.
No need for PM, Jime himself had it on a post, I just cant find it. Check it. Remove your water outlet. Notice the plunger from the T-stat goes into a hole at the side of the water outlet neck (you have to have it in your hand to know what Im talkin about). Now seperate the Tstat from the housing (careful it doesnt fly off and catch your eye). Now's when it gets cool, get a drill bit or something, cut it to a length of about ~1/8". smouth out the cut so its nice and flat. Now, insert THAT into the hole on the water oulet, re-isntall the T-stat making sure that the plunger's rod sits level pushing against that part you just added. Once the Tstat is on tight, make sure the plunger isnt at an angle and has no play. If its good, put it back on, enjoy ~20-30*F cooler running motor :-D. Add some water wetter while you're at it. Cheap insurance.

What are you cutting to a length of 1/8"?
I used a piece of 12GA Cu wire. (Cut to ~ 1/8")
Depends on the 'shim' size. Unless you go too much, you should be fine.

Here's a pix of the cooler 170*F 350Z thermostat vs the stock 3.5 thermostat - for what it's worth:

Hacim- I cut a drill bit that was about the same thickness as the plunger, lol. And as far as having the warning as the Z T-stat does... I'll find out as the cooler days roll in.
NMexMax- you found the OG thread from Jime on it w00h00!!!
Grey- What are you going to do about that hose outlet next to the eactual water outlet? just cap it and clamp it or what?

I might still use it, so I left it intact. Also razored off the extra RTV....
If only the EU was friendly to the coils when using the 5.5gen ECU (Jime had coils burning out when he hooked up the EU after doing the full rewire for 5.5 gen ECU, IIRC- EU does the same thing on the E36s M3s, gotta put some resistors or something inline when hooking up the ignition wires to make it work safely).
Im saying this cus that will be my next big mod, and if NMexMax could get it as well, the friendly competition should get ubber interesting
