I thought it was the other way around. Since 5w-30 is thinner then 10w-30?

Our stock motor oil uses 5W-30. In the summertime, you can use 10W-30, but not in the winter. I'd say just stick with the 5W-30 for consistency. As far as brand goes, Amsoil synthetic oil is probably the best for our car. Mobil1 is not bad either. Or you can use Pennzoil like dealers.

With a synthetic, 5W-30 or 10W-30 is fine year round.

PLEASE do a search. I think it's working now.

There are MORE than enough threads on this.

If you drive a lot of miles, the oil that will give you the longest service life without shearing would be the Mobil 1 10W-30 (unless you're interested in Amsoil).

Personally, I'd go with a 10W-40 synthetic for superior protection in FL hot climate, however the Mobil 10W-30 is a good choice.

Only oil analysis will tell you what's best for YOU though.

Probably. I ASSumed you were going synthetic, so I spouted off a 10W-40. I don't think dino(regular) oil comes in that and I wouldn't use if it did, ONLY synthetic.

If you MUST get your oil changed at a lube shop just stick with 10W-30 and get it changed regularly. I personally wouldn't go over 4K miles per change until you get an oil analysis.*hint*hint*

What kind of driving do you do? What are the temps like in FL? Are you unable/unwilling to change your own oil?

where can i get an oil analysis done and how much will it cost? i will never change my own oil, so ill have to stick with lube shops. in fl its between 85-98 degrees all the time and its hott and humid. i drive fast because i drive a maxima. but i only floor it once a day to keep the ecu in check.

You should be fine with a QUALITY dino oil such as Mobil 10W-30.

For more info on gettin an analysis read this:
