AMSOIL Synthetic Oil

Anyone else use this? I just started using it, the Full synthetic 7,500 mile formula.

Amsoil 10w30 Synth

They also make a 30,000 mile formula. But I dont trust any oil past 5,000 mile, its just me. I change it every 4,500 miles and the filter every 3,000 miles.

My engine runs smoother since I started using it, and its been about 3,000 miles and the oil is still nice and clean. its supposed to have a real high tolerence to heat and independent tests show it to beat Mobil 1 full synth in all tests and exceeds other synth oils.

$7.20 a Quart for the stuff

Anybody else use it?

Amsoil's XL-7500 oil uses Class III basestocks in their formulation, similar to what Castrol's "full synthetic" Syntec uses. Neither are true "synthetic" oils. You would be better off using a good quality dino oil such as Castrol GTX, which has been lab proven to be a very good dino oil for the VQ engine.

Check the oil analysis spreadsheet link to see how many vehicles have gone past 5k or not only Amsoil, but other synthetics AND dino oils as well.

The two full synthetic Amsoil oil products are:

ASL - Amsoil Synthetic xW/30 - this is guaranteed by Amsoil for 1 year or 25k
TSG - Amsoil Series 2000 (only comes in 0W/30) - this is guaranteed by Amsoil for 1 year or 35k

Main differences is the Amsoil Series 2000 seems to be more shear stable, thus allowing a little less wear. Both are excellent oils and have been proven many times in analyses to safely go up to 20k.

But like you, I'm not real keen on going 25 to 35k unless I was on the highway constantly.

You can get the first for $5 a quart and the second for about $6 a quart. You got ripped off on the XL-7500 oil. Don't ever go to that place again to get Amsoil. Next time, contact by e-mail or PM member iwannabmw, who sells Amsoil products near his cost.

Mobil 1's "SuperSyn" formulation have proven to be more shear stable than their previous "Tri-Synthetic" formulation. It's a better oil than the XL-7500 oil you purchased.

Next time, return to Mobil 1 or try and actual full synthetic Amsoil oil. Given your typical drain intervals, I would simply keep it simple and use Mobil 1.

I used to use Mobile Tri Synthetic, I know I paid a ****load for that amsoil, They didnt have any ASL in stock so I got the XL-7500, I dont know much about oil, I used to run Castrol GTX in my cars for 5 years now, and its worked out nicely, I just started using synthetic, so the guy at the store said to start with the XL7500 (again, i dont know much about oils/visc etc.) then next interval he said for me to get the ASL formula for the 25k changes.

So is Mobile Super Full Synthetic good?
