Want to start chaning my own oil. Got some Qs.

I am in VA until August and will be going to GA then. The car is originally from michigan so its been through some cold winters. I had the oil changed at the end of May right before I drove it down here and I'm about to hit the 3000 mile interval. So i've got a few Qs.

Since the car has been in cold climates and is now in hot climates, which oil should I use?

How often do I need to change the oil or should I just stick to the 3 months/ 3000 mile rule?

I'm pretty sure I have a fair understanding of how to change the oil, but a how-to site with some pics wouldn't hurt.

Is there anything else I should check while I'm under the car? If so, what should I look out for?

Will any oil filter from Advanced Auto Parts do or should I get a specific one?

thanks

I prefer to use Nissan oil filters as they are easily accessable and offer better quality than most OTC filters.

I'd reccomend checking your ATF fluid if you are an auto.

I use 10w-30 mobil 1 full synthetic oil for my car (Texas based)

Maintenance schedule for oil changes can be found in your owner's manual.

Check out the stickies here for the full details
