Its time for me to make the oil decision. Step inside...oil party

Well the time has come............its time to change my oil. Now thinking about things..I drive 100miles a day. Umph..............my poor car. I've been using penzoil as my choice and either a fram filter or a mobil 1 filter. I've been reading and now I'm under the inpression that the fram filters suck. So I'll start using mobil 1 only. However its very hard with my routine sometimes to get an oil change in at 3k.........most of the time its about 5k. For this reason I'm thinking of going to synthetic. Whats everyones opinions should I make the switch and if so do I need to clean the engine first with that sludge oil cleaner...then put in synthetic. My issue is I dont want seals to start leaking etc. Thanks for the input guys.

infinitiblast,

Since you live in a hot climate near me, go with the Mobil 1 10w-30 year round. It is their most shear stable formula.

As for a cleaning, take a look at auto rx. It did a great job on my 94 altima. http://www.auto-rx.com

As for the oil filter, the M1 filter is the best but pricey. Take a look at the Bosch 3323 at Autozone for $5.49.

Mobil 1 could go 7,500 miles at least. What kind of miles, highway or stop and go mixed?

All highway...and maybe 3 of stop and go. The mobil 1 you are talking about is that synthetic?

Actually Mobil 1 has dino formulas (i.e. their Drive Clean series).

Sorry dude but the dino and semi-syn semi-dino oils are called MOBIL, NOT MOBIL 1. You stand corrected!

Not correct. Mobil 1 is full synthetic. The conventional and blend are not called Mobil 1. They are called Mobil Drive Clean and Mobil Drive Clean Blend, respectively.

Yes. Mobil 1 is fully synthetic. Synthetic oil can last up to 3 times longer than dino oil depending on operating conditions. Mobil 1 will only stand by the car's factory interval which is 7,500/6 months. You would be on your own if you went up to 10,000 miles. Used oil analysis would be necessary to make certain the Mobil 1 could make it that far.

Since we just bought our cars (2 months), I am cleaning them up with Auto-RX; rinse cycle with Chevron Supreme, then back to M1. I will use M1 10w30 with the Bosch 3323 filters. The Bosch is cheaper and to me just as good as the M1 filter.
