What oil filter to use?

Hey all. I am going to change oil in my car, and need to know what kind of oil filter to use. I know that nissan oil filters don't last very well. So what should I use? I want to put Valvoline oil in my engine. Any suggestions about oil type?

PS. I am sure someone already raised this question, so if you have a link to discussion like that please post it here. Thanks

See the Fluids and Lubricants forum. It's all there.

Ok, will consider Nissan products in about 3000 miles. For now its Castrol GTX 5w30, and Mobil 1-110.

Thanks for the answers!

Get 10w30 GTX not 5w30. It's cold as fudge there now so don't use the 5w in the winters. I run 5w spring-fall and 10w30 winter. Or is it supposed to be the other way around? Anyway. Oh and try WIX filters, apparently they are VERY GOOD. For me paying $15 for a OEM nissan filter is not really worth it.

I don't know what dealership you go to but they are ripping you off even worse than usual. Courtesy sells it for $5.04 plus shipping and my local dealer sells it for under $9.

Hrmm.. I pay 5 bux for OEM nissan filters. the lower the # the lower the viscoscity... 5winter-30 would be more fluid thten 10w-30.

My 2 cents

Yeah well my dealers are all @ssholes so what do you expect. It costs around $50 for an oil filter and 300zx fuel filter. Yeah my bad, 5w30 is for winters.

WRONG
Spring/Summer --------10W-30
Winter, Cold Climate----5W-30

Use the 5W in the winter because on cold startups its thinner to get to the vital engine parts up on top of the engine...10W is a little thicker for summer usage...I just changed to 5W in NJ because of the bitter winter and a bit more security for Cold starts..

Oh and dont use any other kind of Oil than MOBIL 1 Fully Synthetic...And DONT use FRAM OIL FILTERS...they dont have an anti-drain back valve...

I already have a stockpile of the 15208-9E000 filter for my 02. I paid $5 each from my Nissan dealer. Thanks for the link.

Take a look at the sticky threads here, especially this one:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=227996

While the Nissan 15208-9E000 is on the recommended list the mobil 1 M-105 is a bigger filter, and fits fine on a 5th gen.
