I called around autoshops and that's how much their asking and insist on at least 16quarts, including jiffy lube....that's pretty steep since i'll using expesnive amsoil atf. Ya'll done this before? Is a flush neccessary? My 02max has 36k and all i done so far is drain and fill at 25k with 4.5quarts of amsoil. Should I just continue to drain and fill, like for every 10k. It's only $15 at a local shop for that.

It should only take about 12 quarts. If you supply the ATF, then you are being overcharged at $90 - I paid 60 when I brought my own 12 quarts.

There is a sticky on this at the top of the forum page.

You can either flush it yourself by pulling one of the lines to the cooler/radiator, or just continue to do partial drain/refills as you have already done. AMSOIL ATF is fully compatible with petroleum fluids, and after a few changes (drain and refill), you will have a very high concentration of the synthetic fluid. For what it's worth, the Nissan factory service manual on my '98 lists only the drain/refill technique to service the transmission. I've done both procedures, and the drain/refill is by far the easiest.
