I changed oil and put in 0-40, so far pretty good. I was using 5-30w before and always mobil1. 150k miles.

 

You're using EuroSpec Mobil 1? It should give you a little more power, but it will probably give you a wee bit less protection. I was looking at it today. Honestly, what Nissan recommends is probably what you should use, unless you have heavy modifications. Also, it's spring time, and you're in NJ... there really is no need for you to use something graded so much for the winter. I typically use 5-40 in the summer.

Let me know how it goes though. With such a large multigrading gap, it makes me really curious.

 

ya, euro-spec. I bought it for winter but didnt use it until now. It pours faster than 5/30. I think it would be a great winter oil for NE peeps. Engine runs smooth and quiet, you should not use this if you are switching to syn for the first time.

 

Good luck. I hope your oil pump can handle a 40w oil. I know most new cars would croak on it.

 

He should be okay. Mobil 1 always runs on the thin side of their viscosities. M1 0w-40 is not much thicker than Amsoil 0w/5w/10w-30 or the Castrol Syntec 0w-30 made in Germany.

That being said, the M1 0w-40 is not as shear stable as the above referenced synthetic oils. The Mobil 1 10w-30 is very shear stable as well.
