fuel system cleaner/additive
hey guys - just gone through my first tank of gas (00 se 5 speed) and I've used those fuel system cleaners or gas additives in the past, I was wondering which you guys prefer?
btw, I'm only @ 45000 miles so I don't expect to see too much improvement, but I figure its probably best to do it right

I only use Chevron Techron Concentrate (not the Chevron Progard, which has a lower concentration of Techron) in my Maxima. Redline SI-1 has also a good reputation. BG 44K is expensive and hard to find but some people swear by it.
I stay away from the cheap stuff (STP, for example). There is a lot of stuff out there that may cause more harm than good...

You will only notice a difference if your injectors are clogged. I use BG44K as a precaution every 10k. My first experience was in a 1989 Hyundai Excel. My car wouldn't go past 60mph, would buck, knock and ping. I tried at least 3 different fuel system cleaners and none did anything. I was at a Toyota dealership with a friend and asked the parts guy what I could do and he handed me the BG44K. At the time it was $13 which in 90 was very expensive. It absolutely cured all of my problems and they never came back before selling the car some 30k later.

On a whim, I went to Napa and bought a bottle of Seafoam. The guys there swore by it. I sucked about 1/2 can into the vacuum system and really didnt see much white smoke at all--which I attributed to having clean injectors. Well after letting my car sit for a day, all I can say is wow. I noticed a HUGE difference driving to work today with my throttle response, as well as an increase in gas milage. I'm now a convert. (Dont mean to hijack this thread into another Seafoam thread...)

If you suck Seafoam through a vacuum line, it doesn't clean the injectors. It cleans the carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. You have to dump it in your fuel tank or use a machine to force it through the fuel rail for it to clean the injectors.
