For starters, what kind of oil have you been using? The manufacturer recommends 5W-30 which is what I have always used on my 95SE. Most of the time I use Castrol 5W-30, but I am thinking about switching to Mobil 1 synthetic. My car has 53,261 miles on it and I don't think I will experience any leaking problems if I switch to synthetic. I have been guilty of not using the Nissan OEM filters all the time, because I go to Mr Lube from time to time and I think they just throw on a Fram filter. I think I'll go the stealership and buy a few Nissan oil filters.

hey, this is going to be my first time changing oil, how many liters of oil or what size of bottle should i put in? I know this sounds stupid, but I don't want to have any problems when I'm doing it, so better ask everything I need to know in front.

Have you got an owner's manual? It provides the volumes of all the lubricants in it. I believe the Maxima takes about 4.5 litres of oil or 5.35 US quarts.

Based on the questions you are asking I suggest you take your car to a luby-loo before you f##k something up!

Pardon me 4.5 litres = 4.95 US quarts, not 5.35.

Guys...read his post before delivering advice please.

He has a 2000 model. Not a 95-99.

And 5 quarts is WAY to much to put into this motor. Its worse to OVERFILL than underfill....Though neither is desireable at all.

According to my owners manual, with a filter change...the required amount is 4.25 US Imperial quarts of oil. I have a 2K1.

Yes, a Mobil1 110 filter is correct for your 2k.

Yes, Mobil1 SuperSyn is good. I made an assumption that this is what you will be putting in the car.

Nissan recommends 5W-30. I would put that in for the time being until YOU do research (versus recommendations of people) on what to put in. Many people run different weights/viscosity based on their driving habits and environments.

Read through Bills oil sticky above and you can start getting an idea of what to run.

Cliff Notes: Use 5W-30,Mobil1 110 and 4.25 quarts of oil until you do extended research.
