Which non synthetic ATF?

my '96 has almost 97k miles, quickly approaching the dreaded 100k... I havne't done an ATF flush on this car since I got it last year at 72k, and I don't think it has been done since about 35k, maybe even never... so, i know i should have done it when i first got it but i didn't..

i don't want to dish out the extra dough for synthetic ATF and i think it may be too late to switch. I also don't want to buy Nissan's ATF since its just as expensive and the manual doesn't say what kind of ATF the car needs.

help!

Check the Capacities and Recommended Fluid/Lubricants section of your owners manual. I should list Nissan Matic 'D' as the recommended ATF with a footnote number. Underneath the chart, the foot note number should say "Dexron III/Mercon or equivalent may be used." I'd think that just about any name brand Dexron III ATF would be fine. Personally I've used plain 'ole Pennzoil Dexron III in my '01 Maxima without any problems at all.
