As far as synthetics go I highly recomend them. When I was redoing the top end on my 96 Talon TSi AWD turbo. There was absolutley no buildup on engine's internals.
Different story with My 91 Talon TSi AWD turbo. I was using castrol gtx 10W30 and there was a lot of buildup on engine's internals when I had the head rebuild on it.

I have just found out that Nissan is now recommending Mobil 1 for the Nissan lineup. This is a 180 approach to the thinking process at Nissan.
In the 12 years that I have been buying their product not once was Syn oils recommended. However, I also was not discouraged from using them.
I picked up a phamplet printed by Nissan showing a number of their vehicles and jugs of Mobil 1 and a sticker that says Mobil 1 racing(tacky). Oh Well, times are a changing.

I've only been working around cars for what 5yrs now and of my experience with oils and what each brand can do, bottom line is all petroleum motor oils are all the same it doesn't matter what brand you use, your wasting your time and money going for name brand stuff. If you go regular motor oil then get the cheapest one it doesn't matter it will perform the same way as your so called industry leading brands it's all a gimmick to confuse you. If your smart and know when to change your oil for your vehicle than you should be fine. That goes for Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline etc.etc.
Now for us performance guys we all know synthetic motor oil outperforms all petroleum motor oils hands down.

Used to use the bulk 5w30 oil from my workplace. I guess my car didn't like it because it sounded louder in the morning (hey it was free oil!). Now I've switched to QS 5w30 and it seems that the car is not as loud. I might try castrol GTX 5w30 next due to the recommendations from fellow ORG memebrs.

Well, I don't care what any mechanic says or does not say about Quaker State. And I don't put much stock in all the millions of Amsoil web sites (though it's generally a fine product). I put my faith in objective results. With that in mind, I'd respectfully challenge any VQ owner to show me a substantially better used oil analysis than the one you'll find at the link below. This is my last UOA on German Castrol, taken with just under 5k miles on the oil, which is still in service, and will remain so until 7500, the wty-safe max. Any takers??? I've posted this here before; if you haven't seen it, check it out: http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...c;f=3;t=003426

I switched from dino oil to synthetic oil for the first time 3 months ago. I used Castrol GTX 5w30 for the most part, but am now using Esso XD3 Extra 0w30, PAO, full synthetic. This oil is not available in the US.
It is getting rave reviews on BITOG and a number of members are going out of their way to obtain it and stop using Mobil 1. The Esso product is made by Imperial Oil, a subsidiary of Exxon. It is a heavy duty diesel oil, suitable for gasoline applications.
UOAs and VOAs confirm this product is superior to Mobil 1. It does not shear to the same extent as Mobil 1 and is capable of providing longer OCIs, plus it costs considerably less than Mobil 1.

Given you live in Canada, you should be going to your local Esso bulk plant and buying Esso XD3 Extra 0w30 synthetic oil. It is superior to Mobil 1 based on UOAs and VOAs on BITOG and is only 2/3 the cost (or less) of Mobil 1.
Given you only drive about 10,000 kilometres/year, you would only need to change your oil once a year with the XD3 as it lends itself to longer drain intervals.
I just changed mine 11 days shy of one year. Although the oil only had 6,550 mostly highway kilometres on it, it was not at all dark in colour.
This product is not available in stores in Canada and not at all in the US.

15w-40
Driving Area: South Florida
Oil: Any Major Brand Dino 15W-40 year round. Yes I know it's diesel oil, but it's also rated for Gas. The 15/40 spread has very little VI. I do 75% Highway driving, with 5K intervals. Check out the oil reports, 15/40 gets good results for hot areas.
Filter: OEM, now switching to Mobil M-110 after old stock of quality 9E000 is finished.
