Pennzoil Synchromesh Gear Oil
Well, I went ahead and put in Pennzoil Synchromesh Gear Oil in my 98 5 speed 90K. (the oil I drained out was perfectly gold and clean, no shavings, must have been changed recently) Everything is working great so far, shifts smooth, runs quiet and no leaks. How many other people use this gear oil, does anyone use this in your Maxima? What are you opinions?

Isn't that a GL5? If so, some would raise concerns about it...
When I did the oil on my 00 max, it had around 59k on it. I'd bought it at 37k. The tran fluid was nice and clear with no problems, except it _smelled vomitous_. I've smelled few things are god-awful as that fluid. It wasn't a burning smell or anything, just a nasty, nasty smell. I think tranny fluid reaks. even my unuused MT90 smells bad, vs. the "pleasant" smell of fresh mobil 1

I do not think it even has a gsl rating on the bottle, but it is suppose to be very compatible with soft metals as the Nissan gearbox is. I have read that it is eq. to an 80 wt gear oil.
Yes, the gear oil I drained out smelled horrible, the Synchromesh was not as bad though.
