I want to change my tranny oil to Amsoil but I can only find it online. I was going to take my car in for service this weekend but I dont' want to get my gear oil changed unless it is with good stuff. Should I order it online and wait for it and then change it, or should I just try to find the best alternative at a parts/supply shop?

have you checked out any off road places to see if they carry any gear oil? most of the times they do.

 

I'm not leaning toward Redline because I'm more interested in durablity and long lasting wear and tear protection. From what I've researched, Redline is focused more toward smoother gear changes and less protection (racing) in comparision to Amsoil.

BTW, what stores? I've gone to Autozone and Advance and neither have it.

 

If I got Amsoil, should I get 75W-90 or 80W-90?

 

I believe that the manual says 75w-90, but not positive on that.

Amsoil for protection, MT-90 for performance. I'd get the Amsoil series 2000 though, I bought their "economy" gear lube and wasn't impressed with it, so I'm trying MT-90.

 

The Series 2000 75W-90 is the Amsoil lube I prefer. It flows better in cold and protects better when hot. Personally, I think the price difference is worth it considering the long drain intervals. I do understand why some people choose the 80W-90 though.

 

On the Amsoil site the Series 2000 75W-90 does not specify GL-4, it states GL-2 through GL-5. Yet for the (non Series 2000) 80W-90 they specifically note GL-4. Which is questionable to me due to it's ambiguity. My question to you since you seem very knowledgeable is if this: is the correcet oil or is there a GL-4 specific Series 2000.

FYI, AMSOIL Series 2000 75W90 is being replaced with a new product (Extreme Gear) which is GL-5 only. If you wish to continue using this product, I would stock up NOW. The product center closest to me is down to 20 quarts in inventory.
