Hello guys,

I recently installed a VB mod in my '97 GXE. I drained the fluid into containers (milk jug, pepsi bottle) so I could measure it and put the correct amount back in. Well, it ended up being about 6 1/2 qts if I recall correctly.

Anyways, I have been watching the level for the past week or so. When I first start up the car and check it, the level is a little below the first notch on the edge of the dipstick. After driving it for 30mins or so, I check it again, and it is a little below the first line before the crosshatch (on hot side).

I put some more in once, and got it in between the two notches on the cold side, then the next day it was back down again. Now I have checked for leaks and can't find any to save my life. It was parked over a concrete driveway this weekend and there was not a bit of fluid on the driveway. When I was putting my pan back in, I think two of the bolts may have stripped as they just kept turning. Torqued them all to 6-7.

Could it possibly be burning off some of the new fluid, or is it just so low because it has not heated up yet? Oh, and is it okay to add fluid while it's running?

Follow the procedure for checking the fluid level in the Haynes manual.

The first step is: warm up the engine and trans to regular operating temp....

 

This will take longer if you have a tranny cooler installed. Probably about 20 to 30 minutes of city driving. Make sure you go through all the gears. Engine has to be running when you check it. Best to check it when its at operating temperature. A cold check is almost useless.
