It has been about 30K since I had my transmission flushed with Redline D4 ATF fluid. I was going to do a drain and fill with with Redline but it looks like most people recommend Amsoil.

Do you thinks it makes sense to switch to amsoil (is there a big difference between Redline and Amosil ATFs)?

Also, I've read a couple of posts about having to add LUBEGARD friction modifier to Amsoil and Mobil1 to get the to perform like nissanmaticD, does this apply to Redline D4 fluid as well?

Most of the syn fluids come from good base stock possibly GroupIII+ and are extremely tolerent to breakdown and oxidation (that is why you can take it to 60K). They may contain FMs but if I were you I would talk to the customer rep and ask them before putting additional FMs into the tranny. In my case I was sure the dino DexronIII fluids don't have FMs and NissanMaticD is a friction modified fluid -- I went ahead and added Lubegard Black into it. FYI, my chance encounter with Mobil1 Syn ATF was unpleasant.

Amsoil is a friction modified fluid, to meet spec for Honda, Toyota and other cars.
I don't know about Redline D4.

What would be the signs that an ATF fluid that is not highly friction modified is being used in a transmission that requires one?

^^^My other car is a 95 accord EX, that would require Honda highly friction modified ATF. The tranny would bang into gear and it would take 3-5 SEC delay shift, after you let off the gas. If won't shift unless you let go of the gas. When put Honda ATF in to the car, it fixed 95% of the problem. I believe it should have the same problem on Nissan. My next ATF change on my Nissan would either be used with honda type H, or AMOIL ATF,cause right now it bang into gear with Stock ATF, when the tranny is hot . I believe that Nissan don't put have enough friction modified fluid,

The only time I used Mobil1 was way back more than 18 months ago and when I did a drain and refill (not a flush) my tranny got real hot (and it was not overfilled) and like any transmission, Nissan's tranmission shifts gets real wierd when the transmission fluid gets hot.

FYI, there have been well documented cases where syn ATF's run hotter than dino regular ATFs. Since then I have flushed with Chevron DexronIII and stopped monkeying around with my tranny for good!!!!

On the other hand I have had many folks in the forum swear by Mobil1 with excellent results -- on hindsight I may have been the few unlucky folks who haven't yet plunged into the syn fluid world.
