1st OIL CHANGE Complete report!
OK! Break in period over!
Ok, the first oil change of my 05' was today. I pulled the front wheel for better access and should of taken off the splash guard (which I will do from now on)
I have purchased the three possible filters for my car
Mobil 1 108 (TOO SMALL)
Mobil 1 105 (Best bet since it's twice as big as the 9E000)
Nissan 15208-9E000 (Well made factory replacement an inch longer than that garbage filter Nissan put on and better made internally)

This is the piece of garbage that was on my car from the factory.

I also purchased a bunch of the copper crush washers for the drain plug.
The operation went smoothly. I drained the oil and replaced the drain plug and torqued it to about 27 ft lbs in accordance with Nissan's 22-29 ft lbs.
I then went to the filter which is so pathetically small my filter wrench wouldn't grab hold of it!
, had to use a big pair of channel locks, I have to tell you my only peeve so far with the new Maxima is this filter! A 3.5 liter V6 should definately have a bigger one.
Which brings me to the filter I used. I chose the Nissan 15208-9E000 over the Mobil 1 108 for the reason I just stated. BUT! I wanted to use the Mobil 1 105 since it is the best quality and the biggest BUT I had a concern that the 105 is probably twice the circumfrence as the other filter and that it sits so close to the CV Axle, check this pic.

So my question is this, has anyone here installed the Mobil 1 105 filter on their 05' and if so was there enough clearance? I want to use the 105 for it's much superior filtration over the others but only if it doesn't run into any trouble with that CV axle.
In closing I put in four and a half quarts of Castrol GTX 5W30 and the cruising vessel is back in business. I love the fact that changing the oil is very easy on this car.
So come on you 05' owners that do it yourself, let's hear some feedback!

It should fit fine. Believe it or not, Nissan uses the same small filter for my 04' Titan. 5.6 litre engine and they use a thimble to clean the oil. Most people on the Titan Forums are using the M1-105 as well.

I hear ya! That filter was so small.
Go figure. I have to change the oil the day after X-Mas because I am leaving for a 2500 mile trip the day after. I will install the 105 and do another complete report. This filter should bring the total to 5 quarts of fresh oil after drain and filter change! Better still!

I think I may know what is going on
I will fix it. Virus, I checked the oil and 4 and half quarts brings the oil level to the crosshatching on the dipstick, remember that the 9E000 is about an inch longer than that garbage stock filter and may require a little more than 4 and a half. When I switch to the 105 that will definately bring it to 5 quarts.

Hey Joew,
There is another post here somewhere with that addressed and it was real good! I think you have to grind down an little part of the block that prevented the 105 from being spun on all the way. From the looks of the picture it was there so to keep a wire routed away from the filter and other moving parts.
Or you can just buy a 6th Generation!

The whole thread is awesome. Read it. Worse comes to worse go to your Nissan Dealer and buy the 9E000 and then go buy the 105. Do the oil change and if you can't get the 105 on there use the 9E000. You should be able to grind that thing down if it is on your engine.

Here is a follow up, I did another oil change today since I am departing for Las Vegas. I switched to the Mobil 1 105 filter. I used 9E000 Nissan filter last oil change but the Mobil 1 filter is far superior. Sorry for no pics but I took some and they came out like garbage. I put Castrol 5W30 in my baby and she is ready for some major miles! Wonder what the Nissan dealer in Vegas is going to say when they see that filter!
