Manual Transmission Gear Oil Type

Folks,

I don't have a shop manual and the owners manual does NOT specify oil weight, but does anyone know what type (Oil weight) of gear oil is best suited for the Maxima? Also, can I use 75W Mobil-1 synthethic? Any harm for doing so? Anyone else use it?

I've never changed the gear oil (111K) and want to put in synthethic to ensure longevity. Hopefully the seals won't leak.

Thx for the help.

Use GL-4 ONLY. 75-90w. Do yourself a favor and buy Redline MT-90 fully synthetic tranny fluid. Avoid the junk GL-4 you get at Autozone, Kragen, etc, if you can find it, because most carry GL-5.

Get Redline from myoilshop.com

http://myoilshop.com/MTF.html . I'd recommend Amsoil Series 2000 GL4 over the Redline MT-90 but Amsoil discontinued it.
