AMsoil vs. Mobil1 (repeated)
AMsoil vs. Mobil1 (repeated)
I know this was discussed already but I couldnt find the thread...went to Monro yesterday to have them just change my mobil oil filter and he gave me a card for a AMsoil dealer and said how much better it is than mobil (even though mobil is still excellent) but he swore by the amsoil next time.....any thoughts??
Im using it. Ive been using it for a long time now. The only real test ive done to see if it was any better, is the fact that I used Mobil 1 on my 2000 (bought new). When I got my 2002 (bought new) I used the Amsoil. I notice that during the same length of time, the oil I was changing from an Amsoil fill was cleaner or clearer or somehow "more wet" (??? is that even possible?) then the Mobil oil I was changing from my 2000. Of course, It might have been the filter, but I was running the Mobil 1 matched with a K&N oil filter on my 2000, and I went to all Amsoil on my 2002. Who knows, but all the data ive read or heard or seen on this stuff is pretty impressive. They are both top notch oils, race proven and tested true. Its a really tough call, but I feel safe with my Amsoil, or I wouldnt use it.

There are two Amsoil dealers on the board, talkinghorse and iwannabmw, that will give you discounted pricing for Amsoil products. I believe one of them is up in your neck of the woods in the NE.
The new mobil1 15k supersyn is only $24 at walmart for a 5qt jug, the "old" mobil1 supersyn was and still is under $20 for a 5qt jug. I can get hopefully get the amsoil for the same price as the new stuff and it lasts longer. I'll give it a try for sure.
I honeslty think, that both is good and that doing the change is more important than anything. I have used AMSOIL all my life on my 97 max and I may or may not change to mobil-1. I do about 4-5k before I change my oil and filter. I use either K&N filters or amsoil filters.
I will try mobil-1 5w-30 after my last container.
