Do you know which type of oil the car used previously? If not, its safe to stick with regular dino oil.

I would recommend Castrol GTX 5w30 in dino oil or Mobil 1 5W30 in synthetic. Buy a good quality oil filter such as Nissan OEM, Purolator PureOne or WIX. Do not buy a Fram filter. You could use a 10W30 in Arizona but I would be inclined to stick with the Nissan preferred weight which is 5W30 for all temperatures.

This should be posted in the Flluids & Lubricants forum by the way.

Its been proven that FRAM filters are the crappiest filters that you can get. Just go into the Fluids/Lubricants section and read the stickies. Just stick with Mobil-1 oil and filters, cant go wrong with them.

I just changed my oil yesterday from dino to synthetic and used Mobil-1 SuperSyn Extended Performance 10w30 and a Mobil-1 M1-110 oil filter. And I have an autotragic too and 173k Miles. I also drive pretty hard 60% of the time, in 80-95 degree temp. So far no leaks

Castrol GTX 5w30. is that a pure dino or a semi blend? I seen it at store going for about 2.19-2.49. Compared to the normal oil i get which is like 1.29, i know 5.00 are for syn. so are the Castrol GTX semi blends are pure dinos. I'm looking into running Castrol GTX 5w30 on my first oil change with this maxima.

It's a pure dino and from what I've seen is most highly recommended for dino juice on this website.

it's normallya best practice to stick with the same type of oil that the car has been running on, dino or syn.

yea this site has GTX highly valued almost right behind mobil 1. i dont feel like spending $5 a quart on oil. so i'ma look at GTX. Any place that carries it less then 2.19/quart.

Look for a sale. Most auto parts stores will run a sale now and again on Castrol. When it goes on sale, buy a case or two.

Also, 5W-30, I use a Wix filter, but you can usually find a filter at the dealer for about the same price. I've seen fram filters come apart for no reason only a few miles after an oil change.

Got a similar question. This is my first time posting, and I apologize if this question has been asked before. My 98 SE has about 98k miles. I have been using mobile one from the beginning and stopped at about 85k miles. I have been going to the local Nissan dealer to get their $19.99 regular oil change since then. While I was cleaning out my garage last week, I found another 4 qt of mobile one. Not wanting to waste the oil, I am just wondering if I can switch back to using mobile one for one more time and then go to regular oil again?

thank you.

The first mistake you made, mmlloo, was going to the stealership for their oil change special. I trust you were using Mobil 1 synthetic, were you not. Then you started using whatever crap bulk dino the stealer through in. Now you want to go back to Mobil 1. If it is in fact the synthetic, use it, and stay with it. Look for some on sale, buy the Nissan OEM filter and do your own oil changes.

My local stealership uses Pennzoil a lot of the time, which has paraffin in it, and is crap.

Yes, I was using Mobil 1 for the 1st 7 years of the Maxima and always OEM filter and crush washer. So it is ok for me to switch back to Mobil 1? I wasn't sure if it's ok to go back and forth between synthetic and regular oil.
