synthetic blend question.

What is synthetic blend oils used for? Can you run them longer? are they better then dino? I was considering using it in my 100k mile civic today when I change oil today. Any thoughts?

Studies say theres no long term effect. However, Synthetic oil can run under harsh conditions and I believe last longer. I could be wrong. Most people are die hard Synthetic users and wont use anything else. I for one, use only Mobil 1 and their filters.

Consider running AutoRX before switching to synthetic oil. See www.auto-rx.com

Apparently most synthetic blends only contain about 10% synthetic oil. I wouldn't waste money on them as they are more expensive than dino oil.

If you want to switch to synthetic and want to slow the transition, blend your own mix. Use say one quart of Mobil 1 and the rest whatever dino juice of the same weight you prefer, then check for leaks. If there are no leaks, perhaps increase the proportion of synthetic to dino at the next oil change, or make the leap to synthetic.

However, I would be inclined to run 2 AutoRX trials first and just switch to synthetic.
It will take about 6K to make the transition.

I just had this conversation the other day. It seems like a product for those who aren't quite sure they want to make the switch. And one does wonder just what the ratio is. Good advice on brewing up your own if that is what you really want.

I don't think you can do that. (unless it was a joke)
