Amsoil MTG 75w90 Tranny Fluid...any experiences here?

I currently run Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 which has been great, but it is now time for a change. Apparently Amsoil Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-4 is supposed to be better than the Series 2000 stuff...can anyone verify this? Talkinghorse?

Also does anyone have a link to Amsoil's PDF where it shows their dealer pricing?

Thanks

I put in the series 2000 gear oil last year around June. Feel was slightly better than the gear oil which was in there previously. When I replaced my clutch last month, I couldn't find any GL-4 locally, so I ordered the new Amsoil gear oil from talkinghorse. To me, it seemed like the feel got a little better than with series 2000. Putting the car in gear is a little easier, even with a Pacesetter STS, which is sort of stiff.

Dunno about the Series 2000, but I'm using the Amsoil 75w90 GL-4 stuff right now and it's absolutely great. Never needed to wait for the gearbox to warm up after cold starts in sub-freezing mornings... In fact, I've never seen it cold enough that it didn't shift perfectly right off the bat.

Is the oil that you are using the same MTG stuff that I am inquiring about?

Hey guys it is good to hear such good reviews about this new oil. I am a AMSOIL dealer and will tell you that the dealer cost is $6.40 per qt. $6.05 per qt if you buy a case of 12.

If you want it at this price you can have it.

The Series 2000 gear oil was rated GL2 thru GL-5 making it more of a "one size fits all" product...the Series 2000 gear oil is no longer produced. Earlier this year AMSOIL upgraded most, if not all of their gear oil formulations and introduced a couple new GL-5 products, a new GL4/5Marine oil and a new 75w-90 GL-4 Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear oil, Product Code MTG. MTG is specifically formulated for the unique requirements of manual transmissions and it is the product you should be considering. I sell a lot of it to our members and the feedback thus far has been excellent. Also, as many of you can attest, I have been providing lubes to folks on this site throughout the US and Canada for the past several years for dealer cost...I pay for and post ads in the Group Deals section and have the systems in place to support your needs with the utmost integrity and efficiency.

The various tranny fluids I've used...

Purchased car with 41k on it...

41k - 55k new factory fluid
55k-95k Redline MT-90 (B&M STS installed around 80k)
95k - 115k Amsoil Series 2000 (Purchsed from talkinghorse)
115k to present 130k new factory fluid (Nissan rebuild at 115k = new factory fluid)

New factory fluid is ok, in the winter it is noticeably "thicker feeling" than new Redline MT-90...when really cold, aka molasses.

When switching from Redline to Amsoil Series 2000, I noticed it was "slightly" smoother. The Redline fluid had 40k on it and had seen a few roadcourse events, so it was pretty beat.

When switching from Amsoil Series 2000 back to new factory fluid....it was noticeably less smooth cold and warm.

I have the new Amsoil fluid pictured above sitting in my garage, once it get warm out, its going in. (Purchased from talkinghorse)

talkinghorse is hooking me up with the fluid. I should be picking it up soon...ill let you know how it performs vs the series 2000. Right now I can tell the series 2000 stuff is breaking down...it isn't nearly as smooth as in prior winters.

The MTG you just bought is a better match for your transmission than the Series 2000 was. The Series 2000 Gear Oil was rated GL-2 thru GL-5 making it more of a universal lubricant. AMSOIL enhanced their entire line of gear oils last year by introducing "Severe Gear" for GL-5 applications; "Long Life" for over the road and heavy eqmt; a new GL-4 Marine Gear Oil, a 5w-30 synchromesh fluid, and the new GL-4 MTG (75w-90 Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Oil) for cars like ours. I've sold a lot of MTG and the feedback I have received thus far has all been very positive. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it...

Trans was filled w/ the new Amsoil fluid this past weekend...I have driven about 300 miles now and all I can say is WOW. HUGE difference over the factory fluid (with about 20k on it). Shifts are much smoother, and it goes into 1st gear while rolling with no problems now (B&M STS).

I highly recommend it.

I just switched to AMSOIL GL4 and its a lot harder to get in reverse, everything other gear is fine. 4 1/2 quarts and level is fine. Is it supposed to "set in" over time or something?

It's odd that only your reverse gear is difficult to engage. There's many factors that can contribute to hard shifting and using the wrong fluid is one of them. However, in your case you definitely have the correct fluid...many of our members have installed it and report much improved shift quality. Let it go for a while and see if it improves. Perhaps is shifting to the forward gears improved and Reverse seems difficult by comparison?

Yes, you can use AMSOIL MTG in your manual transmission where GL-4 is recommended. I would recommend AMSOIL GL-5 Severe Gear for the diff...

What year/engine/transmission is the vehicle?

Only other gears that are a bit harder are 1st and 5th but not as much as reverse. Sometimes its impossible to get into reverse if i dont quickly go through throuhg the other gears first. When i had my previous fluid, whatever it was, there wasnt a problem. I'm going to see how it goes for the next couple weeks.

its a 2001/V6 SE/5speed i'm not too sure if gl-4 or gl-5 is recommended... i'll have to check that. the car has got 112k right now and i don't think the fluid has ever been touched (bought the car used).

Your transmission takes 5.9 pints of GL-4 and the rear diff takes the same amount of GL-5. Would you like me to PM you a price for AMSOIL?

I use this stuff . Its great compared to the Redline MT90 I was using before. In fact I am so happy with Amsoil I will be switching to their motor oil when my last case of Mobil 1 Is up.
