djfris - In case you don't want to hang around here for days trying to get a concensus on the oil to use, you could sort of 'cheat' and go back to the main menu and, under 'MAINTENANCE', choose the 'OILS AND LUBRICANTS' section.

There are lots of stickies and lots and lots of individual posts there discussing the various oils, both dino and synthetic; answers to any and every oil question you could ever dream of. The choice of motor oil pretty much applies the same to all six generations of Maximas.

If you don't want to do any research, one approach used by many is to just use Castrol GTX 5W30 dino oil the first 20K, then Mobil 1 Synthetic from then on.

Edit - and please understand and don't take offense when the mods properly move this thread to the oils and lubricants section.

light is correct -- as usual. Except the section is called "Fluids and Lubricants" which I call Fluids & Lubes.

Lots of good discussion there about motor oils, OCI, oil filters, gasoline octane, etc. And don't overlook the long list of stickies. I used the info there to properly change the fluid in my 6-speed to synthetic -- which improved the shifting quite a bit.

Thanks, SilverMax. You may not be a spring chicken, but you are at least still in possession of your mental faculties. I can remember the days when I, also, was able to remember things. . . at least I think I remember when I could remember . . .

Correct as usual, light. I climbed around my attic on Saturday putting in additional insulation and felt like a dead chicken today. It takes longer to bounce back from efforts like that the older we get.
