Washer fluid frozen?!? WTF!!!

Got below zero last night and only in the upper teens to during the day while my car was parked at school. As I am driving back my washer fluid is not coming out as I try and use it. I can't even hear the pump going, so I figure my pump just crapped out. When I get home I look down in the washer fluid tank and it is half full, but the **** is frozen solid!

I have never had anything like this happen before. Has anyone else? The left over fluid in the container in the garage was not frozen, but maybe that was just because it was in the garage the whole time where it does not quite get so cold. The spends the night in the garage so perhaps the fluid only froze while I was at school for a few hours.

Anyways, since the pump sits right in the fluid in the tank, do you think that it is now damaged? I mean the thing was not even trying to pump anything because all the crappy fluid was frozen into one solid block.

I checked it this morning after the car spent the night in the garage and it thawed out. The pump survived it too so everything is good. The bottle says -20 on it but I guess that was all a bunch of bullsh!t. I put the left over fuild in the bottle out side and it was frozen solid with in a couple of hours. I will never be using that brand again.

That is EXACTLY what this is like. Blue and very thin... like water. Called "splash" good for -20... what a bunch of horse ****.

I got a bottle of purple "Polar Ice" and put it out side tonight and it is -15 right now and it has not frozen yet so I will be using that from now on.

Yeah cheap fluid will do that to ya. My Girl's Maxima's washer fluid didn't spray for a few days and honestly it wasn't even cold outside. I made the mistake of putting the cheap Pepboys fluid inside. Do yourself a favor next time and either buy some good fluid or a bottle of Prestone HEAT to add along with the washer.

I saw that HEAT before... I had my doubts, but you say it works eh? Maybe I should put some in since my tank is still half full of that cheap bullsh!t. That way don't have to drain the sucker. Thanks!

Honestly I've heard that they changed the formulation and supposedly it doesn't work as well at certain temps as it use to, but when I use to use it, it would work in freezing temps and would act like a ice melter for a thin layer of ice. Only downside? Your vents might smell like alcohol for a couple of minutes right after you spray it. I think all it is, is alcohol. I'd assume you MIGHT get the same affect by putting in some Isopropyl Alcohol. I could be wrong.

I doubt it would feeze completely enough to not come out...I bet the tips of your nozzles were frozen which blocked the fluid from coming out.

Nope. First, the pump was not even working because it was filled with frozen fluid so nothing could even move. I thought the frozen bullsh!t might have broken the pump, but it did not. Second, I took the lid of and saw that the fluid was completely frozen I took a stick and stuck it down in there and poked it and it was completely frozen. Not half frozen, not a thin layer on the top frozen, but completely solid frozen. Third, I put the left over fluid that was in the original container out side and it froze too. So, I know for a fact that it is the sh!tty fluid.

I might not need to do this. The low for the next week is in the 20s. So, I think I will be fine. It was just these past 3 days that it was a high of 5 and lows of -15. The last time it was that cold around here was back in 1870.
