VQ35 loves German Castrol Syntec 0w-30 .......its a thick 30wt oil at operating temperatures n it doesn't break down as much as mobil1....according to the guys at bitog forums...

You should try it out...VQ35s tend to love thicker 30wt oils...some engines don't though. be wary of that...

Unless your wealthy, cost will be a factor with synthetic. See what's available at a discount retailer, (Wal Mart), in a gallon jug. Mobil 1 for sure, Castrol maybe, maybe not.

I keep reading in here about this German Castrol 0W-30. Is there a place that normally stocks this oil?

Autozone or Advanced Auto chains will stock these oils....make sure when you go buy it, read on the back and it will say Made in Germany (all others will say made in USA)

GC is hard to beat, but its a tad trickey to find, you will be more than fine with good old Mobil One 5w-30, i wouldnt use the EP version, its more money, thinner, and for other reasons i just really dont like it as much as its cheaper brother.

Although GC is always a good choice, M1 is easier and hard to beat.

Good luck.

Ohh and id reccomend a M1 filter or a PureOne filter.

True, might not be noticible really though, and your engine wont mind using a lttle extra gas, for the protection it will be getting

No it's not.....Castrol SYntec 5w-30, 10w-30, 20w-50, 5w-50 and pretty much all weights are made in the USA

0w-30 on the other hand is made in germany...

Mobil 1 synthetic???

Yup I guess I'll switch to Mobil 1 syntheric, 5w-30 as well. Right now I use Royal Purple synthetic, no problems with it but I heard Royal Purple is just not as good as Mobil with price, milege and reliability. Well let's try and find out. I guess I'll use M1 filter as well.

BTW sorry for asking this but how many bottles of oil are we actually suppose to use for our VQ35, should be 5 right? I don't have manual that's why I'm asking.

Ohhh yeah Steven, how do you know so much about oils, and you know what you car likes and dislikes!!! Man, I like that... it's like you and your car =1. Just like 1+1=1 You probably the only one who knows so much about all that.

I switched to synthetic oil for the first time 5 weeks ago. I'm running Esso XD3 Extra, 0w30, PAO, full synthetic. I switched following an AutoRX clean and rinse and can notice no discernible difference in fuel economy with this heavier 30 weight oil.

This product is not available in the United States. It is gaining rave reviews on BITOG and is preferred over Mobil 1 on the basis of UOAs and VOAs.

Alex - lol, I'm not that knowledgeable....i just did a little research here and there....give german castrol a try alex....the vq35 specs for a thicker oil and thats what german castrol exactly is! in the european FSM, it calls for 10w-40 stock, and 20w-50 for upgraded....GC is actually a thick 30wt, think 40wt....the vq35 loves thicker oils! and mobil1 (especially their EP line) is too thin for the vq35 if u ask me...

give it a shot...just go to your nearest autozone chain and look for 0w-30 GC...it will say on the back made in germany....all the other weights will say made in USA

I have used the Castro (GC) 0-30 for about 1/2 year already. For the past 1/2 year I haven't burn a drop of oil compare with M1 5-30 I've already burn at least half to one quart of oil already. PLUS engine is really smooth at idle and at hi rev.

So I guess using GC 0-30 should be pretty good, huh? How many quarts did you use to put in with mobil, and how much with GC? About 5 right?

I put in 4.75....for some reason, when I drain my oil and pour the factory listed 4.25....I'm coming up short on the dipstick....so I add in another half a quart and that brings up the level....
