Tranny fluid
Tranny fluid
My transmission fluid ws rebuilt about 13k miles ago and I took it to a local lube shop to do a oil change and the guy told me i need to do a tranny fluid change.
the problem i have is that last time i did a tranny flush after i bought the car the tranny croaked on me. i bought the car used with about 50k on it so i guess the original owner never changed it and it just got worse after i changed it. Well anyway i checked it and it look slightly darkish pink. Im also getting a little jerk in my shifting. I also bought the lucas oil transmission fix is that anygood?
is it safe to change my tranny oil or should i leave it?
thanks alot

I'd like to know how you 'rebuilt' transmission fluid...
Your transmission fluid should be changed every 15k miles. This holds especially true with our crummy autotragic transmissions. That being said, you cannot tell by the color of the transmission fluid that your fluid needs to be changed. 2nd, it is against the law for your lube shop to tell you that the fluid needs to be changed based solely on the color. Do they have an oil analysis labrotory on the premises? If not, ask them for their corporate phone# and turn them in to them, along with the BBB. Then go home and flush out the fluid yourself.

I don't believe I've ever heard scarier horror stories than those about local lube shops, particularly those like Jiffy Lube, Valvoline, etc. Also, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone going to one of those place and NOT having them say that "[insert random car part] absolutely MUST be [changed, fixed, or corrected], otherwise your car [insert anything synonomous to: "might explode in a super nova fashion and end all life in the universe! You may not even make it home without killing us all!"].
Two things can be learned from this experience:
1.) Don't listen to these blithering blokes.
2.) Change your own oil, transmission fluid, etc.
Optional but recommended:
