Advance Auto Parts Oil Filter

My brother picked one up today for my Mom's Camry. Anyone know if these are any good? I know they are pretty inexpensive, like the Super Tech ones from Walmart.

Anyone ever cut one open to see the end caps?

I'm sure they'll do the job, providing you change them on a regular basis. But there's a lot of truth in the old adage "you get what you pay for." While metal end caps are generally preferable, there's more quality indicators than that: burst pressure/thickness of the canister, presence/composition of an anti-drainback valve, presence/construction of the pressure relief valve, construction of the center tube, and the quality/quantity of the filtering medium itself (efficiency and capacity). Lower-cost paper element filters generally aren't as efficient and don't last near as long as synthetic/blended elements do, making them best suited for petroleum oil changed at frequent intervals.

I have a filter cutter that makes opening a filter a snap. I've cut open a lot of filters and there can be a huge difference in quality.

It says "Compare to FRAM" on the box. I would assume its the same thing as a FRAM PH series filter.

Advance Auto Parts oil filters are made by Purolator. They are basically the same thing as a Purolator Premium Plus filter. The filtering ability of the AAP filters is the same as the premium plus. Check out the forums at Bob Is The Oil Guy. Many have cut open the AAP filters to find out the guts are the same as the premium plus filters.

Even though the box on the AAP filters says "Compare to Fram..", its just a marketing gimic to entice fram loyals over to trying it.

If you're doing 3000mi OCIs then you'll have no problem with this filter. Actually any filter including FRAM would suffice for 3000mi OCIs.
