Auto Tranny Flush

So I'm considering getting an auto tranny flush done by Meineke but I called them and found out that they do not drop the pan.

Have any of you guys done an auto tranny flush from Meineke? Would you recommend it even though they don't drop the pan?

My car is at 74k and this will be its first auto tranny flush

Drop the pan and do it yourself. You will be suprised to see the amount of shavings on the magnets that need to be cleaned as well as the amount of extra fluid that will come out.

Your best option is to NOT get your tranny flushed at a place like Meineke...Usually, those places are only out to make a buck...

I would recommend having a flush and filter change by a trusted mechanic shop OR going to a shop that specifically works on Transmissions, like AAMCO

I just had my tranny flushed and the filter changed at 85k for $110 bucks from my mechanic, and its never felt better!

I was considering that. I was just looking at the write up and it doesn't seem too complicated. Have you ever done this before? Any tips or suggestions?

Question about the magnets though.....was there severe gunk buildup on them?

I appreciate the input Tdotmax.

are you talking about the filter in the pan? $110 and they dropped your pan? Pretty good deal.

First drain from the drain plug then close it back.

When dropping the tray there are a lot of screws holding it in place so be very careful. Also be sure to hold up the tray when removing the last couple screw and have a drain pan ready, a ton of fluid that did not come out of the drain plug will come out and it will become messy so be prepared incase you didn't aim your drain pan properly.

You will see 2 magents on the bottom of the pan. Thoroughly wash it out as there will be a lot of gunk and shavings on the magnets. You want to avoid touching those shavings as much as possible especially if you have any open wounds. Let the pan dry completely then bolt it back up in reverse order.

question - do the 5th gens have a serviceable filter element? on 4th gens it's just a metal strainer that does not need replacement (and you would have to remove the valve body to get it out anyway). in any case, $110 to drop the pan 'aint half bad.

Same thing on the 5th gen, its just a strainer. If its getting clogged up, your transmission is already toast anyway.
