6th Gen ATF Fluid Question

Car is a 4 sp Automatic and book says Matic-D. Will Matic-K work as well and can you mix these two without problems?

Matic-D is the correct fluid. I can't find any info concerning the interchangeability of the two. Mixing the two might not kill your transmission (right away), but it could adversely affect shift quality. I would recommend you NOT do it.

You know what is really strange is Nissan recommends MaticD and Infinity would recommend MaticK for the same tranny. I just don't get it.

Which tranny is that?

Listen to talkinghorse's advise. You'd be better off using any other brand Dex III instead of Matic K (which is more expensive anyway).

Sorry, but the owners manual for an 04 Infinity I35 specifies Matic-D.

Could be, but in the case of 2K I30 and 2K Maxima it isn't the case inspite of both trannies being the same.

On that note, MaticD replacements that u get OTC, like regular DexronIII are not shear resistent. I would suggest using some quality synthetic fluid, BTW, I have MerconV (Chevron's MerconV is dual rated for DexronIII apps) on my max and it works pretty good.

I must finally add that if you want to be on the safe side wrt warranties etc. go with OEM fluids and on the web you could get it real cheap unlike the prices charged by stealerships.

I don't mean to debate the issue, but according to my Application Guide both the '00 Max and I30 use Matic-D (or Dextron III as an acceptable substitute). I have also serviced one of each of these particular years/models for people since the cars were new and know it to be accurate. If you have some documentation that contradicts this, pls let me know.

The bottom line here is that it is not in one's best interest to gamble and use Matic-K in a transmission that calls for Matic-D.

Where can I find Matic-D online or at any local store? I don't really want to go to the dealership to get it.
