I don't mess with that stuff...I think this is the one main thing that everyone follows...use ONLY the fluid that your manual or dipstick tell you to use.

That's what I did. There are TWO different types of fluids for the 5AT: Matic-K and Matic-D IIRC. Check your dipstick and manual to confirm.

Even if they say that it meets OEM standards, then I myself, would still be a ***** and get the OEM fluid at about $8-$9 a quart I think lol

(I'm a lucky little ***** and got a FREE flush a couple thousand miles ago )

I beg to differ that DexronIII is even close to MaticD/K in FM levels.

If you are in warranty stick with OEM fluids.

If you are past warranty and have bucks to spare look at Amsoil Universal ATF or in my case I chose Castrol Import MV ATF which behaves exactly as MaticD in shift quality but getting syn blend with Castrol vs pure DexronIII type MaticD fluid.

Assuming your car is an '04 with the 5-spd auto, it requires an ATF labeled as meeting Matic-K...do not use Dextron-III. My suggestion would be to use either OEM fluid, or if you want a synthetic, AMSOIL ATF meets Matic-K requirements.

Thanks fellas for the feedback..Im the second owner at 39,000 miles right now. I believe i do still have factory nissan warranty on the drivetrain, if it transfers from the original owner to the next. I guess ill spend the money and go with either OEM fluid or Amsoil...I pick up garbage for the shop that wants to do my flush and hes doing it for free so i wanted to check into the fluid that he said he was using before i went and had the car worked on. Cant complain about paying for good fluid if the labor is free i guess.
