Burning Oil?

Burning Oil?
Hey GUys,
I didnt want to post this in the off topic bc it is an oil question, but its for my mom.
It appears her Toyota was extremely low on oil. I checked it out tonight and according to the dipstick there was nothing. I put in 3.5 quarts and the engine took all of it. Now the stick is showing its full.
My question is could a car burn an entire full tank of oil in a month? She had it changed in Dec (middle) and it appears there is nothing now. The car is a 99 and runs like a champ. The flip side of this is she had brakes done at a local shop. I am wondering if they emptied the oil by accident thinking they were suppose to do an oil change, and never filled it back up? Of course there is no way to prove it, but I was wary.
I apologize in advance and I know this doesnt relate DIRECTLY to my max, but i could have lied and just said it was a maxima...

also, it appears there is no leaks, and no smoke coming from the exhaust. the car does have around 125k miles, but i have a feeling someone screwed something up and didnt put oil in.

Your suspisions are probably correct. No way to prove it. Just hope you found the problem before there was much damage to the engine.
3.5 quarts sounds like there could have been 1 to 2 quarts in the bottom of the oil sump. You should check the owners manual to see how many quarts are needed with an oil change. I would also recommend that you get the oil and filter changed ASAP to help preserve what life remains in this engine.
