high miliage oil

Good idea or bad idea? Have been running non-synthetic oil in 2001 ae maxima. Have a slight leak from tranny/engine seal. Have 270km, running fine.
Is high miliage oil a good idea or a baaaaaaad idea. Thanks!

high mileage oil isnt a bad idea. usually oil is oil and it only matters when you put the wrong weight in. high mileage oils have different solvents to keep the engine clean while preserving the seals that are well and good. as well as put some life in the seals that have seen better days. so yea, i would switch to high mileage oil for a high mileage vehicle. itd be best to do something about the leak first, as high mileage oil is a tad bit more expensive than conventional oil.

AutoRX might help with the seal leak.

high mileage oil is bogus. its just dino oil with more detergent in it. If you've done regular oil changes the whole life, its a waste of money. if you want to spend more money, use synthetic, not that synthetic blend crap. Otherwise you'll be fine, the high-mileage oil won't do much for you.

Ya well it makes sense to me that higher mileage engines would be better served by dino oil with more detergents than a full synthetic oil.

Also you would want to change the oil more often so full synthetic isnt going to do you any good.

valvoline max life is, in my opinion, one of the best oils on the market for the vq30. 10w30 in summer, 5w30 in winter. it's on the thicker side, is about 20% PAO (so it's really a very high quality synthetic blend), and has a strong additive package. but for me the best part is that my engine runs silky smooth and quiet on it. every other oil i've tried (including M1 and GC) produces slight TC tensioner rattle, but not the maxlife. plus it produces excellent oil analyses -- but every oil does in my vq, even the cheapest store brand oil on the market shows the same low wear numbers as the best synthetic, but I won't get in a debate over synthetic vs. conventional.
