New OCI with Napa 1182 oversize filter

I've always changed my dino oil at 3K in my maxima. I will be switching to a MUCH larger filter next OC (extra .5 quart), and am thinking about extending my OCI.

I drive to work five days a week 46 miles round trip. I plan to make my OCI 6 Months/5,500 Miles. I currently am running ST 5W30 but will be running Castrol GTX next OC. Doubling my OCI, I am willing to pay a little more ($18.00/5qt) for Castrol, QS, Havo/Valvo, etc.
Thoughts, comments?

The NAPA Gold filter is a good quality filter...made by Wix. The filters are well constructed, they're durable and they have a generous amount of filtering medium. The filters will provide a good 7500 miles of protection. The larger filter will do nothing for efficiency, just increased capacity. And with the short intervals you've been running and plan to run, you should not come anywhere near maxing out the capacity of either the recommended filter or the one you're thinking of using.

Just because a filter will fit on to your car doesn't mean it is correct for your application. In this case these filters have very different by-pass valve calibrations. Settings on the recommended filter are 8-11 psid and setting on the larger filter is 24 psid. As stated above, capacity shouldn't be an issue with either filter so potential clogging (which would cause the bypass valve to open) is not a concern. However, the settings could definitely make a difference on cold starts or in high demand situations...the lower settings on the recommended filter will ensure proper oil flow where oil flow may be restricted with the higher by-pass calibration of the larger filter.

Recommend you stay with the filter that's recommended for the car...and your proposed OCI's will be fine

I went ahead and changed the oil 641 miles early today. Startup was as quiet as any other startup after an oil change.

The reason for the larger filter is two-fold. Both reasons are related to the extra oil capacity.
1 I like the idea of using the whole 5qt jug rather than having extra oil take up space in my small garage.
2 I feel better about stretching the OCI to 5K+ with the extra .75qt.

As far as being a dead ringer, the bypass is 24 rather than 8-11, but with the larger media I believe the pressure differential will be close to the same.

Update

The 1182 is no good for the VQ. 24psi bypass causes rattling above 3k when cold.

I found a Napa 1147 for $7.77 that matches all the important specs.
