Oil and Other Fluid Extractors

Here's some interesting videos on engine/auto fluid extractors. I've actually worn out a Pela 6000 that I bought in 2008. I'm on my 2nd extractor that is the Mighty Vac. I wish I had known about the metal tank type extractor. It looks solid.

I wish I had seen that one before I bought the one I have. Mine is the base model. You can do more with the one in the video.

Like the guy in the video demonstrates, you can remove more transmission fluid and oil (depending on oil pan design) with the pump than with opening the drain plug. I hook up a smaller clear line for bleeding brakes and clutch. I think the company is missing a sales opportunity by not talking about brake and clutch bleeding.

There is an Ace Hardware near me that sells the plastic lines in different sizes that are used by Mighty Vac. I picked up some longer lines to reach into truck engine compartments.

Here's a video of the one I bought marketed under a different brand name in Europe I see. I think I paid around $75 for the one I bought.

I have both the regular mity vac (suction only) and the mity vac "plus" (which evacuates and dispenses fluids). While I generally remove the drain plug to change oil, etc, I use the regular model to remove power steering fluid, brake fluid, etc. I also use it to remove rear differential oil & ATF when the vehicles are not equipped with a drain plug. The evacuator really makes ATF changes a much cleaner process in these cases. I use the "plus" model to dispense ATF when the fill plug is hard to reach.

I've had these devices for several years and while I don't use them every day, they do come in handy when I need them.
