Looking at buy a reliable floor jack. What do you recommend?

I'm looking to buy a floor jack with or without jack stands. Something small enough to fit underneath a maxima...hopefully 3 ton or is that too big?

I've been looking around and have read about craftsman, northerntool, husky, michelin, etc. I don't really know what brands are good.

Suprisingly I have read a TON of bad reviews about craftsman and blown seals within a few months to a year so I think I will probly stay away from them.

I'm looking to spend as little as possible, but don't want to have to replace the jack anytime soon. Steel seems cheaper and I don't care about the weight of the jack at all.

I don't think u have to spend a ton of money on something you use every once in awhile to rotate tires etc...

I have a jack that my father got, Im 28 and it's older then me, jacks the cars up fine

Not to mention those jackstands don't look stable at all. You want something with legs, or else they'll need to be on a nearly perfectly flat and level surface.

how often do you work on your car? plus a 1.5 ton jack is not gunna have a problem jacking up a 1/4 weight of a 3000lb car. i think that is in your head.

Check out the Torin Big Red jacks. I have 2 and my friend has been using them for yrs now. Those Torin ones in the picture aren't the ones I have...those look ghetto.

In Canada you can pick them up at WALMART for cheap...they are made in china therefore you get to pick them up for practically nothing.

The great thing about these is, even if you did get a problem, you can throw them in the garbage and just buy another one - they are like 20 bucks here for the 2-Ton, I have the 2 1/2 Ton & the 3 Ton jack stands with the safety backup.

I bought a cheap one and regret it. It leaks oil and doesn't stay up when under load

Obviously there is a serious safety issue here. When working on the car you should always be using jack stands of course - but we all take short-cuts every now and then - a shortcut which could turn out bad with a cheap jack.

If a cheap tool breaks you buy a new one. If a cheap jack breaks on you the consequences are potentially fatal...

Dang... y'all got a better deal than me. I just picked up the 3 ton jack for $80. Originally wanted the 1 1/2 ton but they didn't have one in stock. The 3 ton is built very well and easy to use. I recommend it. Also, my brother bought the 1 1/2 ton a couple of years ago and hasn't had any problems.
